Lea County Correctional Facility Status

Lea County Correctional Facility, often abbreviated LCCF, should be treated as a closed or non-current NMCD contract facility for inmate lookup. The high-authority GEO facility page still describes the Hobbs site as a former 1,200-bed medium-security state prison contract facility for New Mexico and the New Mexico Corrections Department. That older facility profile is useful for address, phone, history, accreditation, housing design, and former capacity. It is not the right source for a current prisoner location after the NMCD closure transition.

The controlling current-status source is NMCD's official LCCF closure update. NMCD said it would conclude use of LCCF by June 30, 2025 after GEO notified the department that it would not seek to extend operations. NMCD also said about 1,000 inmates would be transferred to state-operated facilities. Because the project date is June 22, 2026, the current lookup rule is clear: do not send families to a Lea County roster or to the former LCCF page for current sentenced state prisoners.

Lea County Correctional Facility Capacity

LCCF capacity and population numbers are historical context now. GEO lists capacity as 1,200. The New Mexico Sentencing Commission forecast referenced in the research reported 1,293 operational beds, while NMCD's closure page discussed the transfer of approximately 1,000 inmates to state-operated facilities. Those numbers do not mean 1,000 current prisoners are still at the Hobbs site. They describe the scale of the former state-prison operation and the closure transition.

Former LCCF population data should not be blended with the Lea County Detention Center roster. The active county jail in Lovington holds local pretrial and county detainees. LCCF was a sentenced-state-prison contract facility, and its closure moved current location questions to NMCD.

Lea County Correctional Facility Lookup

The correct current lookup tool for a former LCCF inmate is New Mexico Corrections Department Offender Search. NMCD says users must know the person's first and/or last name or NMCD number to begin. Adult Prison Division offender search information is updated nightly, while probation and parole information is updated in real time. NMCD also warns that it does not have jurisdiction over county or city detention facilities, so the same locator will not find someone held only at Lea County Detention Center.

1. Open NMCD Offender Search and search by NMCD number when known, or by first and last name when a number is not available.
2. Review the result for the current institution, supervision status, or legal status, rather than assuming the former LCCF location still applies.
3. Allow for transfer timing. NMCD asks users to allow 24 hours for Adult Prison Division information to appear.
4. Verify location or legal status with the current NMCD institution or probation and parole office because offenders can move.

The Lea County Detention Center roster is for local county jail custody. It is not the state-prison locator for people formerly housed at LCCF.

Lea County Correctional Facility Contact

The former LCCF address and phone are useful for historical facility identification, older records, or confirming that a source refers to the Hobbs contract prison. They should not be used as the main path to locate a current NMCD prisoner. Current custody questions should go through NMCD Offender Search first and then through the listed current NMCD facility or supervision office.

NMCD's closure update also points victims and families with transfer or release-notification questions to the NMCD Victim Services Program at 1-877-842-8464 or cdvictimsrvcs@cd.nm.gov. Victim notification and custody lookup are separate from the county jail roster.

Lea County Correctional Facility Visits

There is no current LCCF visitation schedule to publish for NMCD inmates because NMCD ended use of the Hobbs facility by June 30, 2025. Families should locate the person through NMCD Offender Search, identify the current state-operated facility, and then follow that current facility's visitation approval and scheduling rules. State-prison visitation is not the same as county jail video visitation, and it should not be planned through the Lea County Detention Center roster.

Do not rely on old LCCF visit times found on archived or third-party pages. Transfer, security level, approval status, and the current institution control whether and how a visit can occur.

Lea County Correctional Facility Mail

Mail and money instructions for the former LCCF site should be treated as historical unless NMCD or another current operator publishes a new active use. A sentenced state prisoner who once appeared at LCCF may now have a different mailing address, facility trust-account process, approved vendor, tablet provider, and visitation process. Sending money or mail to the former Hobbs facility without confirming present custody risks delay or rejection.

If a person is not in NMCD search, check custody type before assuming a record is missing. A person may be at LCDC before sentencing, in federal custody, in ICE custody, released, on a sealed or expunged matter, or listed under a different legal name.

Lea County Correctional Facility Transfers

LCCF was not a street-arrest booking jail. A person arrested in Lea County would normally begin at Lea County Detention Center if local custody was required. If later convicted and sentenced to state prison, the person could enter NMCD custody after court disposition and prison commitment. State prison intake involves reception, classification, facility assignment, transfer, and supervision records. That process is different from county jail booking, which creates a local jail record and may appear on the LCDC roster.

For former LCCF inmates, the important event is the 2025 transfer. NMCD said transfer dates could not be shared for security reasons and told families to use Offender Search for current information. The receiving state facilities named by NMCD included locations in Clayton, Springer, Santa Fe, Grants, Los Lunas, Santa Rosa, Roswell, and Las Cruces. A current profile should be checked by present location, not by the fact that the person may once have been housed in Hobbs.

Lea County Correctional Facility Closure

NMCD's closure page is the key record-access source because it overrides older facility pages that still show LCCF as active. The department framed the change as part of a strategic move to bring prison operations under state control. The closure followed GEO Group's notice that it would not seek to extend operations. NMCD said roughly 1,000 inmates would be transferred by the end of June 2025 and that families could not receive exact transfer dates for security reasons.

About Lea County Correctional Facility

GEO's former facility page gives LCCF a distinct Lea County history. It lists the site on land that was originally part of a World War II B-17 training base near Hobbs. The facility was described as ACA-accredited and as providing correctional services on behalf of NMCD since 1993, with operations for the Hobbs facility beginning in the second quarter of 1998 and first inmates received on May 15, 1998. The housing description included a double-celled medium-security unit and a single-celled administrative segregation unit.

That history is useful when reading older court, prison, news, or family records that mention LCCF. It is also easy to misread. A former prison page can look current even after state operations end. The reliable current path is to search NMCD, verify with the actual current institution, and separate state-prison records from Lea County Detention Center records. For local arrests and pretrial detainees, use LCDC. For sentenced New Mexico prisoners, use NMCD. For sentenced federal prisoners, use the BOP locator. For adult immigration detainees, use ICE ODLS.

Lea County's correctional footprint now has two different meanings: an active Lovington county jail and a closed Hobbs state-prison contract history. Keeping those two systems separate prevents false negatives and wasted calls. A missing name on the county roster does not rule out NMCD custody. A former LCCF mention does not prove current Lea County custody.
